The Journey Behind the Book
Before writing Stop It! That’s Enough and So Are You, Laurie was trapped in “it” first.
She lived in the cycle of people pleasing, seeking validation from others, measuring her
worth by the countless times she was there for others, by the titles she carried, her
successes, as many readers find themselves trapped in today. Trying to do it all while
secretly falling apart inside.
Like many who strive daily to “do it all,” Laurie once believed that feeling “enough” was
something that had to be earned, by always making herself available to others, striving
for next achievement, and making sure that everyone around her was taken care of all
while neglecting herself and her needs.
However, a vital shift arrived when she lost her mom. She realized after losing her that
most of her life had been centered around making her mom happy and proud. Even
when she was gone, her heart ached wondering if she had done enough to make her
proud. While working through the grief, she realized how much time she had spent
working to please everyone around her completely forgetting about herself. She then
made the decision to truly discover who she truly is through her relationship with God,
and she shortly realized that because of her identity is Christ, she was already enough!
She was enough without the people-pleasing, enough without putting people first and
herself last, enough without becoming who others wanted her to be and letting go of her
true self, so now she is able to say that she is enough, whether the relationship fails,
whether people get upset because she puts herself first, and whether people choose to
not accept who she is authentically. She is STILL ENOUGH!!
That very moment marked the beginning of a life-changing journey. Laurie now
understood that being enough could not be earned, it just had to be accepted and
remembered.
Learning from years of personal reflection, overcoming self-doubt, people-pleasing, and
many years of lived experiences, Laurie wrote this book in hopes to encourage you to
STOP IT. Stop the rat race, stop the vicious cycle of people-pleasing, stop trying to
measure your worth by what you do for others.
When she is not writing or encouraging others to embrace their authentic self, Laurie
enjoys quiet mornings with a cup of coffee, spending time with her husband, children
and close friends, and shopping for perfumes.
